You have to recognise trends <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">before they become visible. Let me explain it this way: A bad trend analyst and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">a good trend analyst go to a bar. They see that the guests are nibbling salty <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">biscuits. The bad trend analyst says: &#8216;People are eating savoury biscuits. We <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">need savoury biscuits.&#8217; The good trend analyst says, &#8216;People will get thirsty <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">soon. We need drinks.&#8217;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><strong><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Are people consuming more again right now? If so, why? Does compensation <\/span><\/strong><strong><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(e.g. for the time lost during the pandemic years) play a role?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Yes and no: No, little is being consumed at the moment. Yes, compensation <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">plays a big role. Before the pandemic, people had increasingly spent money on <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">experiences and less on things. Then the pandemic came and many experiences <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">were not possible or not allowed. So people spent more money on things again. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Accordingly, retail sales in the last two years have been much higher than before <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Corona. Now people are trying to make up in one summer for everything that <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">was cancelled in the last two summers &#8211; trips, weddings, festivals, concerts &#8230; <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">That costs a lot of money. While the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">majority of people simply wanted their old lives back and to continue exactly <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">where they left off, it became apparent after only a few weeks that the powerful <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">cultural <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">elite <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">took <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">sitting-at-home-and-cleaning-out-the-closet <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">as <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">an <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">opportunity to rethink their overconsumption and to make a resolution to live <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">more frugally after the pandemic. This idea of consumerism is now in the world, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and it is only a matter of time before it becomes mainstream.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><strong><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">What are the challenges and opportunities ahead for the industry?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">So far, fashion companies have been able to answer the demand for more <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">sustainability with a more sustainable quality of their products. They replaced <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">cotton with organic cotton, for example, and customers simply bought the same <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">thing in green. But now customers are additionally questioning the quantities. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">It is less and less about what they want to buy and more about how much they <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">want to buy. Adapting to this new situation is currently the big challenge and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">opportunity for the industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Do your trend analyses differ for the different price segments?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Yes, also. But due to people&#8217;s hybrid consumption, this is becoming less and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">less important. Luxury fashion is increasingly being bought by people who can&#8217;t <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">actually afford it, and cheap fashion is also being bought by people who don&#8217;t <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">actually need it. In this respect, buying decisions are determined much less by <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">how much someone earns than by what style world they want to live in.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"western\" style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">What long-term changes do you see in the next few years?<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">We are actually just at the end of a macro trend and the beginning of a new <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">one. It&#8217;s about more than just a fashion variant. It&#8217;s about a new style, a new <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">music direction, a new attitude to life. The twenties are taking shape.
