BEYOND AWARE – Global trend

BEYOND AWARE, the overarching trend theme for Autumn 20/21 analyses the multi-layered levels of awareness on different planes of perception – personal, global, regional, mental, rational, emotional and transcendental. It’s all about self-awareness and contemplating the status quo. BEYOND AWARE stands for a new way of thinking and rethinking that goes far beyond our previous understanding of fashion.
It’s about more than just fashion!
BEYOND AWARE calls for the observation and very responsive reaction to the changes in consumer and clothing habits – one that is dynamic, attentive and bold. Combined with the demand for change in trends as well as values, which is currently manifested in two ideological concepts. On one hand is Bold Expressions presents an individual, very enthusiastic lifestyle and fashion style. On the other hand is Forward Ethics for conscious, responsible consumption. Two very different concepts that polarise and attract attention. The affirmation of BEYOND AWARE.

SECTIONS

Fabrics
Winter fabrics will feature woolly, new-twist classics, comfort and aesthetics coupled with modern casualness. Most manufacturers are now focusing their collections on sustainably produced goods and processes. Sustainability has become a natural part of the upstream stage. New consumer awareness and transparency have led to fundamental shifts. Both in fabrics as well as colours trends, not least in the styles expected. More than 800 international fabric suppliers hosted in the FABRICS areas at MUNICH FABRIC START will demonstrate the versatile and individual ways this trend can be understood and translated. Sometimes progressive, classic or sporty, sometimes masculine or with new femininity. Often with a voluminous, soft finish. But always with the greatest possible lightness.
Additionals
Perfectly coordinated buttons, striking zippers, decorative rhinestone appliqués, individually designed labelling. The latest creations for buttons, ribbons, decorative stones, fasteners, lace, embroidery and labels will be presented by over 200 leading international suppliers of additionals and accessories for Autumn Winter 20/21 in the ADDITIONALS Area of MUNICH FABRIC START.

Design Studios
Inspiring print designs and creative energy are provided by the most important international textile designers and trend agencies hosted in the DESIGN STUDIOS at MUNICH FABRIC START on the firstFLOOR. Setting impulses for future prints, always in search of the special and truly unique.

SOURCING Area
The launch of the SOURCING Area in the new Hall 8 of the recently opened Business Club Munich opposite the MOC provides direct connection to MUNICH FABRIC START and BLUEZONE. Over 80 international apparel manufacturers and producers will be showcasing their services for womenswear, menswear, accessories, corporate, couture and tailored segments among others, at this independent and suitable space thus meeting the growing demand for manufacturing services.

‘The idea of this new segment is based on creating an inspiring and efficient atmosphere in a contemporary and high-quality setting. And thus also a unique environment for network communication and work. With the new SOURCING area we can now map the textile supply chain at one location in Munich.’
Frank Junker, Creative Director MUNICH FABRIC START

ReSOURCE
Awareness of ecologically sustainable certificates and seals of quality is on the rise. With ReSOURCE, MUNICH FABRIC START has established a broad sourcing platform that provides sustainable solutions for innovative and future-oriented production processes. Supported and established by experts, the forum offers concrete solutions informing visitors about relevant developments and the latest standards through a series of seminars and lectures, in a bid to bring together potential cooperation partners. In Area K3/4 of Hall 4, ReSOURCE will be showcasing over 600 innovative articles certified and/or produced in an environmentally friendly way.

In the emerging circular economy of the future, nothing is treated as waste. What is left over from one process becomes input to another, so keeping it circualting. Refibra technology gives a second life to pre-consumer cotton waste from garment manufacturing – which would otherwise be sent to landfills or incinerated – by upcycling it into brand new cellulosic fiber materials for clothing and home products. In a special installation, Lenzing will showcase closed-loop recycling with its complete production process for TENCEL™ x REFIBRA™ at the ReSOURCE area.

Through personal discussions on site, visitors can learn key details about the respective certificates and seals directly from the responsible certification organisations and institutes. The entire portfolio of innovations shown in the ReSOURCE Area is available all year round on the new website:

VIEW: Autumn.Winter 20/21 Trends

The VIEW Premium Selection, with its selected portfolio of 400 groundbreaking collections, provides an early information pool for first, meaningful tendencies for the coming season. Numerous buyers, predominantly from Europe but also from abroad, used the opportunity again on 16 and 17 July 2019 to get a first and comprehensive overview of the trends for Autumn.Winter 20/21. We would like to briefly introduce the most important topics here:

At the Preview Fair, there was a new focus on weaving furs, plush qualities and velvet. New fur looks are also achieved through jacquards or bonds. In addition, other important topics include woolly knitwear and hairy and frayed textures. The corduroy and velvet offers, which have been much discussed in recent seasons, were even more in demand this time, even with a broad, fashionable rib. For heavy, wintry jacket types and overcoats, Boild Wool qualities were in discussion. Especially in the outdoor area, the successful functionality often comes into play via water-repellent finishes or breathable membranes, while the looks may remain quite classic to rustic. In addition to traditional winter darks from gray, brown to blue, the color spectrum will be renewed this coming winter with curry, spice and warm yellows and golds. The printers continue to focus on large, repeat prints, albeit partially reduced in their colourfulness.

Sustainability proved to be the all-encompassing topic and has found its way into many collections or providers have significantly expanded their share of sustainable products. In addition to classics such as organic cotton, regenerated fibers have also been used, especially in the form of recycled polyester or recycled cotton.

Appreciation, reflection and awareness of the global whole also have a strong impact on the textile sector. At the same time, individual needs are expressed through highly visual themes or reinterpreted casual, street or classic style looks. Fashion thus remains in the field of tension between ideologically conditioned paradigm shift and the possibility of expressing the individual personality.

Many of the collections presented at VIEW will now be further revised in the coming weeks and presented at the MUNICH FABRIC START in September 2019, at which a total of around 1,000 suppliers will present their Autumn.Winter collections.

Industry Favourite VIEW: High Visitor Count at Season Opening

It has become the favorite show of German and European buyers and designers: The preview fair, VIEW Premium Selection! On July 16th & 17th, visitors once again experienced an informative and inspiring introduction to the new Autumn.Winter 20/21 season in Munich.

With its’ sunny summer weather, the atmosphere in the light-flooded hall of the 1920’s industrial loft was noticeably positive. Already at the beginning of the fair on early Tuesday morning, the stands were packed – so that the fair could close after two show days with a high visitor count.

Due to the dynamics of collection creation, the preview event of the MUNICH FABRIC START with its strategically early date has become a fixture in the trade fair industry calendar. Many international brands and premium suppliers have already begun conceptualizing their collections and value this early date.

Other visitors appreciate the event, because about six weeks before the big textile fairs, the time and calm remains to sift through the collections, with the international designer Johnny Talbot of Talbot & Runhof saying:

“VIEW is a very charming staged event to start the new season. We are surprised by the extensive offer and how many ready-made collections we already see here.”

Like Talbot & Runhof, the designers and purchasing teams of many international brands were present in addition to the Grand of the German Confection, including representatives of Adidas, Cos, Lagerfeld and Tommy Hilfiger. Within the curated offer of the 400 exhibited collections there was a clear focus on exclusivity and individuality. Sustainability in all its complexity was one of the most important and intensively discussed topics between exhibitors and visitors. Overall, the orientation of the VIEW as an early format for new developments, initial color and material trends has again been confirmed.

VIEW is not least an industry event because the concept and ambience of the event promote creative exchange. The focus was on solution-oriented discussions for exclusive product and design developments. And even after the end of the fair, the discussions continued in a relaxed atmosphere in the lounge-like outdoor area for after work drinks and Bavarian food.

Tejidos Royo are next to present with ReSOURCE at VIEW

Tejidos Royo are longstanding exhibitors at our BLUEZONE Denim Trade Show as well as VIEW Premium Selection and now they will be among the first to present their sustainable fabrics with ReSOURCE at VIEW.

How important is it to you, to present your new products at VIEW Premium Selection?

VIEW & MUNICH FABRIC START means quality and efficiency. Always thinking about the future, these fairs are constantly changing with the sole objective of satisfying the needs of the exhibitors and visitors. At Tejidos Royo we share this philosophy, and we are also aware of the relevance that both the VIEW fair and Munich Fabric Start have in Germany for the textile sector. We have been betting for this fair for many years, due to the importance that the German market has for Tejidos Royo.
Our goal is that the fabrics presented in each edition, serve as a source of inspiration for visitors. This new AW 20/21 collection has SUSTAINABILITY and the use of the most advanced technology in the development of fabrics as main characteristics, together with an exceptional quality of finish.

Sustainability is not just a trend. Please tell us how intensely you are working on this topic right now?

NSustainability has been imposed as the only recipe to counteract the ecological crisis of the planet. For many critics, sustainability is for the fashion industry a facelift. But the change is not only in a “green washing” rather the change comes from a complete revolution of all the production processes of a company.
The buying trend among consumers is changing. The consumer no longer only looks for price, quality, speed, exclusivity, etc. but among its purchasing decisions is the sustainability and social-environmental commitment of the company. The term ‘Sustainability’ in the private sector is escalating as a strategic priority. It is not just about selling more products to more people. It is about limited resources, climate change, over-population which challenge innovation to make more competitive products.
Tejidos Royo, aware of the seriousness of the situation, continues to guide the textile industry towards this new era of sustainability and the protection of human rights throughout the value chain by innovative solutions.

“Our goal is to give the market the best product without permanent harmful effects for the future.”

The trajectory of Tejidos Royo is marked by the development of leading-edge sustainable techniques in the industrial process.

Today Tejidos Royo is a pioneer in the development of a unique process in the world, capable of dyeing indigo without using water. This process, developed together with Gastón Company and IMD- and denominated DRY INDIGO®, gets the requirements to be considered an eco-sustainable technology to Indigo Yarn Dyeing process with Zero Consumption and Zero Discharge of Water, to Process Certified by AITEX.

How does this influence the future of your company?

We are aware of the effort we are making in terms of investment, but also that, if we do not act, we will end the planet. Our continuous search for sustainable solutions throughout the value chain influences us in a positive way and gives us the peace of mind that we are on the right track. The mentality of the textile sector is changing. It is a slow process, but both, manufacturers, brands and consumers are adapting to this new way of creating and consuming fashion that is increasingly sustainable and beneficial in all aspects, by and for the common good. A new way of doing things has arrived and we are firmly committed to it.

Please highlight some of the sustainable products visitors will find in your upcoming collections at VIEW Premium Selection and MUNICH FABRIC START.

DRY INDIGO® The future of sustainable denim, IS NOW
Tejidos Royo, together with Gaston and Imd, has developed the Dry Indigo® technology, a dyeing process which is unique in the world. This certified and guaranteed technology under the ECO – TECHNOLOGY by AITEX (textile research institute) allows to dye indigo yarn with zero water in dyeing process, 89% less chemicals, 65% reduced energy usage and also zero water discharge. In addition to being the most sustainable dyeing technology in the market today, our Dry Indigo® registered brand offers this features in the fabric:

  • Intense Cast (Indigo intense hue)
  • Multi Cast Wash-down (being a superficial dyeing, it allows very sharp contrasts)
  • Very versatile fabric to laser processing

ROYO has the exclusive right of this unique technology worldwide.

REBOOT LINE “Recycled PFD fabrics”
This fabric is the first sportswear recycled fabric in PFD (Prepared For Dye), characterized by premium quality and regular finishes that solves “the big problem” of the presence of foreign fibers in the spinning and dyeing process of recycled sportswear fabrics. Its most outstanding features are:

  • Recycled Pre-consumer
  • Non foreign fibers and clean look
  • Same look and hand-feel of conventional fine cottons

RECYCLED DENIM FABRICS
We support the shift towards an efficient and traceable economy in the use of resources, an upcycling strategy of responsible product based, fundamentally, on the use of pre and post-consumer textile waste “close the loop” to manufacture new fabrics improving their benefits. All through the circular process. All items containing more than 20% recycled material have the international external guarantee “Global Recycled Standard” (GRS), which strengthens the credibility of all the products we obtain.

“We have the opportunity to reduce the consumption of natural resources and guarantee an optimum quality.”

DUTEL CREATION, BORNEMANN ETIKETTEN , YILMAZ TEKSTIL and TEJIDOS ROYO will be among the first to showcase their sustainable fabrics at VIEW.

How important is it to you, to present your new products at VIEW Premium Selection?

DUTEL: The year 2018 was marked by a collective awareness to the ready-to-wear industry. Brands, customers and young designers are now combining design of clothing with an environmentally friendly approach.
BORNEMANN: As a first time exhibitor, we are extremely curious and excited to be a part of VIEW Premium Selection. The event let’s us get in touch with our customers and potential customers at an early stage of their developments. It gives us a feeling for the upcoming season, what are the important topics and how is the market developing. We can include our impressions from View Premium Selection into our preparations for MUNICH FABRIC START to give our customers the best possible products and services on point
YILMAZ: VIEW is especially important to us because the timing is excellent for the customer’s new collection preparation. It’s our chance to show them our new developments, as early as possible.

Sustainability is not just a trend. Please tell us how intensely you are working on this topic right now and how you see this influencing the future of your company?

DUTEL: CONSUMERS SEEK RESPONSIBLE READY-TO-WEAR. According to the Lyst eCommerce Fashion Report, searches for organic cotton or vegan leather clothing increased by 47% in 2018. In parallel, the number of Instagram posts with the hashtag #sustainablefashion came close to 3 million. An undeniable increase, revealing the environmental concerns of a consumer in search of responsible consumption. Exit compulsive shopping! Fashion lovers, now aware of the devastating effects of fast-fashion, are in search of “green dressing”, eco-responsible, which is neither harmful for the planet, nor for those who live in it. DUTEL has already started many years ago with concrete actions in our factory. We started to offer a sustainable collection in our SS19 collection with a couple of articles with organic cotton and recycled polyester, this section is meant to become bigger and bigger every season. We planned to use recycled wool, but due to high price level, we decided to postpone this.
BORNEMANN: Sustainability is part of almost every conversation we are having with our customers at the moment. What can be done? What makes sense? What are the newest trends and which product fits best into our customers program? To get all the info right and on point, we just released a special digital portfolio that shows all our current sustainable product-possibilities. We want to be a dependable partner when it comes to questions of practicability, plausibility and of course trend! Sustainability is something that we are working on daily, our innovation management and product development is constantly looking for new alternatives to offer. Not just material alternatives that is, but also working process improvement. Digital sample-developments and our online care label-generator are only two examples of what is on our agenda.
YILMAZ: You are totally right, it’s not just a trend and it should not be treated like one. We all have a responsibility to nature, and we are working intensively on this topic by always creating new things and developing our regular items. It is also crucial for our company because we are planning to raise our sustainable product percentage to 80% in a couple of years, ultimately the goal is 100% sustainability.

Please highlight some of the sustainable products visitors will find in your upcoming collections at VIEW Premium Selection and MUNICH FABRIC START.

DUTEL: Our sustainable articles PURE are in our story FJORD in this ethno–folklorist story mostly in organic cotton, recycled polyester in natural colors with some fancy yarns.
