BLUEZONE in May does not take place

 

With the postponement of our International Denim Trade Show BLUEZONE from January to May 2022, we reacted to the situation caused by the pandemic in an early, responsible and far-sighted manner. The postponement of the date has shown the opportunity to realise a denim show for the textile industry at an important time, despite the cancellation of the January events.

“The short-notice announcement of a further and thus third denim trade show within 20 days and within a radius of 1000 km has caused great unrest and a lack of understanding from the industry and also from us. Since we do not want to get involved in a battle of show dates. In the interest of the entire textile industry and our exhibitors, we have decided to avoid the oversupply of shows and to focus all our positive energy on our core date at the end of August.”

Our basic philosophy is and remains to realise all events according to the well-known high level of our family-run and stable company. Despite the good booking situation and the great support from the industry, this is no longer the case for the coming May with regards to the current trade show calendar. Consequently, the BLUEZONE will not taking place on 3 & 4 May 2022. The next BLUEZONE will take place on August 30th and 31st, 2022 at the same time as MUNICH FABRIC START on the Zenith site in Munich.

Buyers and product managers do not have to wait much longer for the physical exchange in the industry: The next show will be the VIEW Premium Selection on 21 & 22 June 2022. As part of the Preview Textile Show, the first developments for Autumn.Winter 23/24 will be presented in the uniquely personal and professional atmosphere of the MVG Museum.

MUNICH FABRIC START launches independent show concept for SOURCING

And we warmly invite the textile and fashion industry: to the next MUNICH FABRIC START Autumn.Winter 23/24 from 30 August – 1 September 2022 at the MOC Munich and to the BLUEZONE on 30 & 31 August 2022 at the Zenith grounds. For two or three days of international reunion, physical exchange and the establishment of new cooperations. To valuable information and an incomparable spirit of innovation.

The trade show will surprise with an additional hall and a fantastically developed infrastructure – hopefully accompanied by best summer weather. In addition to the areas Fabrics, Additionals, Design Studios, ReSOURCE, Sustainable Innovations, BLUEZONE and Keyhouse, which have been tried and established for years, SOURCING is taking place as a stand-alone show-in-show concept in an independent, larger hall.

This expansion perfectly rounds off the holistic portfolio of MUNICH FABRIC START for you: European all-in-one providers with a focus on Nearshoring present complete solutions for brands, labels and the retail sector in a brand-new ambience. Because on the Motorworld site, directly opposite the MOC, the spectacular event hall of ​​around 2500m² will be used exclusively for Prime Manufacturing Solutions.

Hey Simon, it’s good to see you. How are you?

Actually, I am really busy with the investigation of social impacts – next to the primal impact of this pandemic, we also have the secondary impact on society as a whole and the challenges to our personal selves to deal with. Right now, the personal impact of global challenges is reaching its peak. And yes, whenever the pressure becomes too much, people (and the society) have to dissociate from it in order to ‘save’ themselves or to cope with the challenges. For now, this is resulting in the creation of new realities, ignorance or even denial. We have to ask ourselves what is going on right now. And what is even real, and what’s not? What is the real real? And behind the actual challenges of Covid-19 and climate change, there might be an even bigger challenge: reliability.

This new reality we have to face – how do you suggest we find solutions?

As I just mentioned, there are two keywords that I can really relate to: reality and reliability. I am noticing that we have to unravel these words to the point that tickles our consciousness. Our moral compasses. What are we really fighting for? What are our real problems? To be clear, problems like climate change, consumer behaviour, the oversupply of clothing, Covid-19 and fake news are all big issues. For sure, it’s good and important to clean up this mess, but the solution is not only to clean it up. We have to get to the core, which is: Why did we lose connection to what is real in the first place? We have to find inspiration in that instead of just pointing out the negative aspects.

And how do you think we can do that?

I think we have to change the prefix from ‘pre’ to ‘re’… Rethink becomes pre-think. Re-cycle becomes pre-cycle.

Give this thought some time… It’s about pre-acting instead of reacting: we have to do something new to support the next generations and enable them to follow on from us. Reacting will never be inspiring. Responding to toxic things can never be fresh, inspiring, exciting or new. We cannot achieve a better future by relying on the toxic relationships that have already existed – with economics, fashion and other people.

The prefix ‘re’ in reaction or reconnection points out to what has already been there. But: What has already been there was tainted and can no longer help us. So we don’t want to react and reconnect, we want to pre-act, pre-connect, pre-do, pre-dict and pre-create. We need something pure, something fresh in order to make a change. Let’s make new pre-lationships in order to pre-connect with our future generations.

In terms of this year’s sustainable innovations, where can we find parallels to that pre-action?

We aim to focus on the real challenges, the real choices. What do we actually want?

The common goal is to be a real person in a good society with a pure relationship to nature. Our projects show how that can be done, how we can pre-act to make a change. 

Motorskins offer a solution to becoming lean and active with the pre-creation of movements and support.

Studio Panorama Fabrics pre-use the substance of light with their project Sunkolor, which incorporates the substance of natural elements – this is how we can be inspired and influenced by nature.

Another example of nature’s support for better fashion is Irene Purasachit’s project Flower Matter and the order of pre-action with nature as a collaborative partner.

With projects and innovations like these, we can respond to the real questions and real solutions and face the challenges that lie ahead in the coming years. We will present these and other SUSTAINABLE INNOVATIONS to you in detail here on our M/UNIQUE blog in the coming weeks.

MUNICH FABRIC START about the importance of physical trade shows, company philosophy and the show experience

In the interview with the organisers of the Munich Fabric Start trade shows, Sebastian Klinder and Frank Junker give an insight into the past year, challenging times and new projects to come. The planning for MUNICH FABRIC START and BLUEZONE in January 2022 was almost complete, the response from the industry extremely positive – but then the physical trade shows had to be canceled at the end of last year.

What is the current plan for 2022?

SK: The last few months have been extraordinarily dynamic for us and incredibly tough! Having to cancel so close to the finish line with over 700 registered international exhibitors has probably been the most difficult decision in our company’s history. Now we are looking ahead and concentrating fully on the organisation and alignment of the next shows in the first half of 2022. The first independent BLUEZONE X KEYHOUSE is planned for May 2022 with an innovative concept. In addition, after a forced two-year break due to Covid-19, VIEW will finally take place again from 21 – 22 June 2022 in the MVG Museum. Followed by, of course and as usual, the combined trade show format of MUNICH FABRIC START and BLUEZONE at the end of August 2022.

The cancellation came as a surprise, especially given the enormous support from the industry and the great need for a physical platform. How do you look back on the last few weeks?

FJ: With very mixed feelings. The last few weeks have been a roller coaster ride. At a time characterised by a great deal of uncertainty and rapidly increasing infection numbers in Germany and across Europe, we saw it as our responsibility to offer a certain degree of predictability. And also to make a contribution to society, to take on responsibility. The cancellation of a trade show is an absolute nightmare for every organiser. This is unimaginably bitter for the industry as well as for us, our team and our service providers, because we all put a lot of heart and passion into the planning and preparations.

SK: Despite many question marks and uncertainties, we are convinced that we made the right decision. The current situation in Germany and Europe confirms this. The situation simply does not offer a basis on which we can and want to welcome people from 36 countries in Munich or allow trade shows to take place at the level we are familiar with. We bear an enormous economical, but also societal responsibility. And we are not one of those organisers who realise a show at any price. We see ourselves as a trustworthy and reliable industry partner who represents certain values ​​and a certain event philosophy. And we would like to keep them in the long term.

What is this philosophy?

FJ: Basically, we strive to maintain a consistently high level at all our shows, which we are constantly developing and optimising. This starts with the selection of the exhibitor portfolio, continues with the choice of materials or decorative elements and extends to our numerous trade show services on site. At heart, we are a service provider with high standards for our shows and the associated experience. This is a total package. So if we have to cancel certain services due to a pandemic, this overall concept changes and thus also affects our company philosophy. Then we weigh up how high the price is that we have to pay: not only in monetary terms, but especially in terms of image. We have continuously worked on our credibility and esteem as a service provider in the industry in recent years. It is very important to us to keep this position and the associated values.

How do you see the importance of trade shows against the background of the ongoing pandemic and what will the future look like?

“Physical trade shows in the textile industry are irreplaceable and are gaining in importance, especially in the current situation – the pandemic requires a rethink and the ability to adapt quickly with sensible hybrid add-ons.”

SK: However, the personal exchange as well as the feeling and seeing of the fabrics and materials are essential for the textile industry without equivalent digital alternative so far. We are convinced that in the course of this year, we will be able to implement the planned shows as physical events without having to make major cuts in our overall concept and the associated hosting philosophy. Because this is the only way we can meet the needs of the industry: a physical platform for your business in an ideal atmosphere and in real life!

In concrete terms, this means: We will be back! Sooner rather than later and as soon as it is possible again in a responsible manner: with the firm goal of organising our trade shows in the usual variety and with our unique range of services for the industry. This is only possible with cohesion, trust and a lot of flexibility, which is still in demand from all of us.”

Now we are looking ahead and concentrate on the organisation of the next trade shows in the coming months.

The first independent BLUEZONE X KEYHOUSE is planned for spring 2022, followed by VIEW Premium Selection from 21 – 22 June 2022 and MUNICH FABRIC START & BLUEZONE at the usual show date from 30 August – 01 September 2022.

The last few weeks have been dominated by the finalisation of our upcoming shows. And we are very proud of the current, impressive status: Thanks to the enormous support from the industry, around 700 suppliers from 33 countries are registered for MUNICH FABRIC START, including more than 90 international denim suppliers for BLUEZONE.

At the same time, the very dynamic situation with the ever-increasing measures for events and the rapidly increasing infection numbers all around Europe make it difficult for us to take the next steps to be able to welcome you again in just a few weeks.

It is with a very heavy heart that we therefore feel obliged to cancel
MUNICH FABRIC START Spring.Summer 23 from 25th – 27th January 2022.

BLUEZONE can’t happen in January 2022 as well, but the good news is that we are going to realise a stand-alone denim and innovation concept from 3 – 4 May 2022 on the Zenith grounds in Munich:

“As trade fair organisers, in addition to the major economic risk, we also have a high social responsibility. Decisive for this serious decision are various realistic scenarios that could occur in the coming weeks depending on the situation: a very short-term ban on events, further restrictions for events or additional travel restrictions. In addition, of course, the health and safety of all participants is always our top priority. Due to current developments, we unfortunately have no other option than to cancel MUNICH FABRIC START. At the same time, we see a great opportunity in being able to offer a physical platform for denim and innovations in Munich from 3 – 4 May 2022: BLUEZONE X KEYHOUSE. There, you will find an impressive new format in the style of a blue festival with currently over 90 exhibiting denim mills and innovators.”

The time has come: for months we have been working towards welcoming the textile industry back to a physical show in Munich again. The Circle Book #2 Launches at Bluezone

The Second Edition of THE CIRCLE BOOK is set to Launch at Bluezone

Collaboration and circularity are the next frontiers in textile and fashion transformation. By working together, sharing ideas and visions, the lookbook and work tool called THE CIRCLE BOOK was first created in 2020 from the ACT TOGETHER partnership between Tencel, Meidea and Officina+39. Meant to inspire new generations of mindful designers, this book demonstrates how it’s possible to create designs and projects related to responsible circular fashion. Now get ready for the next round of inspiration and invaluable insights with the second edition of the Circle Book, launching soon at BLUEZONE, 31 August – 1 September 2021.

Visitors at our shows can also look forward to the exclusive presentation of the new CULTURE.IN collection. This circular capsule collection was developed by the 10 contributors of the second edition of The Circle Book. An example in circular collaboration, these top players in the supply chain have merged their sustainable technologies to reduce waste production and create clothes which can be traced from fiber to finish.

Not only can brands can find a reliable and traceable supply chain, but it is also meant to act like an adaptable model for their collections and products. The collection of transparently made clothes from recycled and degradable materials will be presented at BLUEZONE, Hall 7, A 19. Register for your tickets to attend our show in person.

Collaboration and circularity is key to accelerating the potential of sustainability for the future of our industry. But just how did these 10 collaborators act together to divide the roles and responsibilities that made THE CIRCLE BOOK #2 and the CULTURE.IN collection a reality?

We begin with the Meidea team responsible for overseeing design and creative direction, working on the project as a whole to realise the physical production of the denim collection. Officina +39 are the chemical process experts working with their internally developed technology Recycrom to transforms textile waste into powder dyes.

Ribbons and design details supplied by Ribbontex

The collection features a selection of fabrics made from hemp, organic cotton as well as from Refibra and Tencel provided by fiber specialist Lenzing. Starting from RTD or RAW bases, the collections’ unique compositions were created by denim fabric specialists Tejidos Royo and Calik Denim.

The collection also features labels and ribbons supplied by Ribbontex made from biodegradable materials from recycled plastic bottles, cottons and polyester as well as eco leathers, 100% GOTS certified organic cotton and hemp. Buttons and rivets were supplied by Spring 85 including steel buttons made in 100% re-used processing waste.

Finally, Dr Bock Industries were the garment specialists responsible for construction using yarns provided by Crafil. In the final stages, RGT laundry experts put the finishing touches on the garments featured in the CULTURE.IN capsule collection.

It’s about time to celebrate and come together for the reunion of the season. The entire BLUEZONE team proudly invites all denim professionals to our physical show which aims to bring us BACK TO THE FUTURE: BLUEZONE from 31 August – 1 September 2021 at Zenith Areal Munich. It is the feelgood moment we have all been yearning for, personally and professionally which seemed almost suspended for over a year.

We’re calling this edition ‘BACK TO THE FUTURE’, because despite all obstacles, BLUEZONE will become a safe and lively home for the industry. A physical platform for all denim experts looking for a way back to normal, getting closer to the touch and feel of textiles, products and all senses again. We can’t wait until the blue community comes together again, to meet and celebrate in person. Our future is shaped by the thriving denim technologies, developments and innovation waiting to be discovered at our show. Globally and now at our shows, we are happy to announce that blue denim is back.

BACK TO THE FUTURE returns us to a time when the future is free to be written – a future with a strong desire for blue denim trends, novelties and a feeling of freedom. Where sustainability goes beyond and against greenwashing to envision the denim of tomorrow. The trends reflected at the upcoming edition of Bluezone touch on the reality of our new normal. We are physical fanatics, longing for a reunion that brings us closer and connected than has been possible in almost a year. Fun invigorates our clothes, our lives and our styles. While fashion strives to fulfil the need for inclusive, gender free denim and looks, paired with a new gaming aesthetic. We dive into a new virtual world and spread the importance to integrate, 3D and AI visualisations appear in marketing even while styles of the 1920’s prohibition emerge in rebellious sartorial styles.

This season takes a closer look at the denim market, how we want it to be a and want values we are supporting. Denim is a democracy yet we wonder how cheap denim should go, how far are we going to prove our commitment to sustainability and are we honest in our methods? The crucial issue of greenwashing has given rise to a hatery that scrutinizes and fights for the better treatment and respect of our planet.
